3 Min Read

Leicester city’s owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s whereabouts are unknown after a helicopter owned by the Thai businessman crashed close to the stadium.

According to the BBC, it was approximately an hour after Leicester salvaged a result against West Ham in the Premier League when the chopper crashed with the Leicester owner on board.

Also on the scene, a witness claimed that he saw goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel run out towards the helicopter.

Another ticket holder who pleaded anonymity said:  “I saw Kasper Schmeichel run out first [from the stadium] and then loads of security guards and stewards.

“I was stood outside the ground but it crashed on the other side.”

It is unknown how many people were on the chopper.

Freelance photographer Ryan Brown who was at the game, spoke to BBC and said he saw the helicopter clear the grounds

“The engine stopped and I turned round and it made a bit of a whirring noise, like a grinding noise.

“The helicopter just went silent, I turned round and it was just spinning, out of control. And then there was a big bang and then [a] big fireball.”

Another witness, Leo Burka, said he saw two police cars near the scene

“One of them was looking for something and the other one, he ran straight away to the helicopter and he was trying to break the window,” he said.

“Then there is an explosion and they pulled back because the fire was too hot.”

Leicester City said they would release a statement soon

The news rocked the football world with many stakeholders taking to Twitter to air their grief and disbelief at the incident.

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker described the show later that night as the ‘hardest i’ve ever hosted’

Jamie Vardy also tweeted several prayer hands emojis on his Twitter.

Leicester won the league title under Mr Srivaddhanaprabha’s ownership in 2016 in what was an unforgettable year for the underdog team.
