Legendary Spiderman Co-Creator And Artist Dies

Steve Ditko, best known as the co-creator of Spiderman and the creator of Dr. Strange, has passed away at the age of 90.

Ditko was an industry legend and his works has influenced so many authors, artists and so on.

He was a recluse that was never much into the limelight and refused to do interviews or give quotes.

Ditko was found dead in his apartment on June 29 and it is believed he died about two days earlier.

Spiderman was created in 1961 by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee and Ditko went on to create Doctor Strange, sorcerer supreme in 1963, two years after the web head was created.

Ditko was with Marvel till a little after that and he left after a falling out with Stan Lee, the details of which have never been publicly shared with anyone.

Ditko worked in various other places before coming back to Marvel in 1979 and he worked for them freelance till well into the 1990s, creating cult favourite, Squirrel Girl in 1992.

Ditko’s hermit lifestyle was well-known and when the movies of his creations were made, he was hardly approached.

“We didn’t approach him. He’s like J.D. Salinger. He is private and has intentionally stayed out of the spotlight like J.D. Salinger,” Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson told THR in 2016. “I hope he goes to see the movie, wherever he is, because I think we paid homage to his work.”

Stephen J. Ditko was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on Nov. 2, 1927. He isn’t known to have married and it isn’t known if he has anyone with which he is survived by.
