Army officers on Sunday night arrested a lecturer at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria after he was caught in a private female hostel in the school.
The owners of the private hostel had barred men from entering rooms.
Reports claimed that the unidentified lecturer was intercepted by students occupying the hostel as he made his way through the doorway disguised in a Hijab (veil).
He was then handed over to army officers staying around the campus.
A witness Khalifa Sha’aibu narrated :
“The most annoying thing is the fact that the man used Hijab. As a Muslim, I feel sad that somebody would use something that women of faith are known with to perpetrate crime. I wonder why the man would not get a hotel room to perpetrate his immoral act. It was a vigilante member that noticed the structure of the man and exposed him. After he was caught, we discovered that he has been entering the hostel with the consent of the girl. The owner of the private hostel had barred men from entering the rooms.”
The university Director of Public Affairs Dr. Ismail Shehu, promised that investigation into the alleged case would be carried out and an official report will be released by the school, and as well take necessary legal actions. He said: “As you know, ABU does not tolerate indiscipline. Investigation would be carried out and both the lecturer and student would be punished accordingly. There is no doubt about that.”
