Lecturer appeals to FG to build more refineries to end fuel crisis

Mr. Ayorinde Bamimore of the Chemical Engineering Department, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has appealed to the Federal Government to build more refineries as long term measure to end fuel crisis in the country.

Bamimore told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, in Ile-Ife, that past leaders had neglected that sector and rather enriched themselves at the expense of the development of the country.

The lecturer said a throwback was what the masses now suffered as multinationals now direct the affairs of our government shutting down the nation’s economy at will.

Bamimore said that it was the reason why petrol could not be procured at government’s regulated price of N86.50 a litre at privately operated fillings stations.

He lamented that throwback of past bad past leaders was the reason why majority of civil servants now had to park their cars.
He said most civil servants were forced to trek as they cannot afford to buy fuel at black market price of N1, 500 a litre.

According to him, the price of fuel determines the state of the economy, as it also affects the price of commodities in the market.

He urged the Federal Government to work on our refineries and ensure they function while more of it was built in interest of the masses.

Bamimore counselled the citizenry to live within their means and make use of opportunity cost by prioritising their needs rather than running into unnecessary debt.
