President Muhammadu Buhari was subjected to jeers from opposition lawmakers while presenting the 2019 Appropriation Bill before a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.
The lawmakers shouted “No!” at intervals as Buhari listed the achievements of his administration.
The constant jeering plunged the session into a mild crisis as the ruling party lawmakers clashed with their opposition colleagues who were booing the president.
Buhari’s statement that “we have weathered the storms and made progress on every front” was met with a “Nooooo! Boooo!” jeer from the opposition lawmakers, who repeated the same chant as the president also said, “The economy has recovered well.”
A visibly-displeased Buhari however cautioned the lawmakers, saying, “The world is watching us and we are supposed to be above this.”
