As Lassa fever continues to ravage the country, the management of the National Hospital, Abuja has designated isolation wards for the proper management of the outbreak of the viral disease in Abuja and its neighbouring areas.
While disclosing this to journalists on Friday, the spokesperson of the hospital, Dr Olutayo Haastrup, said it had already begun the training of over 200 health personnel to raise awareness about the disease.
Also, he said four isolation wards as well as necessary kits and facilities have been provided to tackle the possible outbreak of the disease in the Federal Capital Territory.
He said: “The hospital is fully prepared, measures have been taken and as soon as we have any suspected case of Lassa, we will be proactive in handling it.
“We have created isolation wards in the hospital being the apex referral centre in the FCT and all the necessary kits and facilities have been procured.”
Recall that Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole while addressing the Senate Committee on Health said the number of people that have contracted the disease has hit 129 as at Friday.
