Following the death of the first female victim who is believed to have imported the Lassa Fever virus into Asaba, Delta State, another patient suffering from the Lassa fever disease has been reported dead.
The patient’s death at the emergency ward of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba was reported to have caused panic in the hospital as other patients took to their heels.
After the first incident, Mr. Patrick Ukah, Commissioner for Information had said other samples of 22 persons suspected to have been in contact with the deceased woman from Anambra State taken to the Iru Specialist Hospital laboratory in Edo state had tested negative to Lassa fever.
It could not be ascertained however if the latest death was one of the 22 persons earlier tested and quarantined.
Medical personnel of the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba who had hectic time restoring order to panic stricken patients shared medical face masks to ensure safety while health personnel who wore protective clothing later removed the corpse from the ward.
One of the Top management staffs of the hospital who preferred to remain anonymous confirmed the death to Sun News but refused further comments as to the identity of the latest victim.
