Mr Colliins Nnabugwu, Chairman, Organisation for Leadership and Strategy Development (OLSD), organisers of the campaign, gave the assurance in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday.

He said that the #KOCA virtual concert was being put together by OLSD in collaboration with the Africa Center for Disease Control, Lagos State Ministry Tourism and other strategic partners.

“This is an effort toward combating the COVID-19 pandemic through technology-driven intervention, using e-learning, entertainment and tourism and entrepreneurship initiatives delivered through television, social media and other innovative digital platforms.

“In April 2020, Africa came under threat, the COVID-19 pandemic, disrupting our way of life, stagnating economies and pushing our African communities to frustrating extremes never before experienced.

“African governments spontaneously went into action to help contain the spread of the pandemic. However, their efforts alone are not able to adequately contain the pandemic.

“To this end, there is need for nongovernment operators, folks with the ability to design workable and practicable intervention models to deal with the foreign virus; so, our organisation came up with the Kick Out COVID-19 Africa (#KOCA) Campaign,” Nnabugwu said.

He said that the campaign was basically an all-Africa movement driven by young people to speak up and support individual communities especially socio-economically.

“To this end, we partnered with the Africa Center for Disease Control and Lagos State Ministry of Tourism in an effort to also support the arts and entertainment industry which has been badly hit by lockdown measures.

“There are no more shows, no football matches and no movies; hence, there is an urgent need to support these people.

“This event will enlist the talents of musicians, movie personalities, entrepreneurs, comedians and social influencers at home and in the diaspora to lend their voices to fight against COVID-19 in Africa,” he said.
