Mr. Chuwudumebi Innocent Nwogwonuwe, a farmer from Onitcha-Okpe Quarters, Ubulu-Uku, in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria, has harvested what can be regarded as the largest tuber of Cassava on the globe
The cassava tuber which is named scientifically as Manihot Esculent stands at more than 10 feet long and was said to weigh up to 90.8 kilograms.
According to the information gathered, it was revealed that the root tuber was harvested from a farmland where no inorganic fertliser was added.
The giant towering root tuber became a source of tourist attraction as people posed to take photos of it.
The former record holding cassava tuber was found in August, 2012 in Big Island of Hawaii.
Volunteers and students at the farm of the University of the Nations found what they described as one of the biggest cassava roots they have ever seen. It weighed up to 83.6kg.
Cassava tuber remains one of Nigeria’s largest agricultural produce with an average of over 45 million tones harvested in 24 states of the country.
