Lagos State Government To Employ 1,000 Youth As Bus Conductors

2 Min Read

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is collaborating with the Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI) to turn Bus Conducting into a respectable profession.

The job of a bus conductor, which many regard as demeaning, and is thus usually looked down on, is going to become a full time job where people study the course and get paid to do the job.

LASDRI will be training prospective conductors who after graduating, will be employed to work with the Lagos State Government for a salary of N50,000.

The objective of this project is to make the job more attractive, respectful and dignified. Also this will be an avenue to create employment for a least 1,000 youths.

The Lagos State Government explained that the job of a conductor is very demanding and dignified but because there is nothing attached to it, people tend to let it go despite its lucrativeness.

While some persons may argue that the job of a conductor is for touts and street urchins, the Lagos State Government is hoping to change that orientation soon.

According to Comrade Adeshola, the project has been in the pipeline and it is expected to change the face of transportation, enhance security and provide employment in the state.

Adeshola said that the vision of the association since its establishment is to get the government working through the National Assembly so as to establish the existence of the program.
