Lagos State Assembly Seals Offices of Sacked Lawmakers

2 Min Read

The Lagos State House of Assembly has locked several lawmakers who were suspended out of their constitutional offices. According to reports, the sacked lawmakers some of whom happen to be principal officers of the House, had their offices sealed when they tried to gain access.

The crisis rocking the Lagos Assembly came to a head on Monday after the Chief Whipo, Rotimi Abiru (Somolu II), the Deputy Majority Leader, Olumuyiwa Jimoh (Apapa II) as well as two floor members; Moshood Osun (Lagos Maonland II) and Adewale Raheem(Ibeju/Lekki II) were suspended indefinitely from plenary for misconduct and insubordination.

The sacked principal officers were immediately replaced with Noheem Williams (Eti-Osa 1) as Deputy Majority Leader and Mojisola Miranda (Apapa 1) as the new Chief Whip.

By Tuesday morning, the offices of the sacked lawmakers had been sealed while their aides were prevented from having access.

Various sources state that the crisis in the Lagos state House of Assembly is connected to a supremacy tussle between Senator Sikiru Osinowo and the Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

The sacked lawmakers are said to be loyalists of Osinowo.

Other sources say however that the rift is tied to a report of an alleged N2.4bn spent on vehicles for 40 lawmakers in the last 11 months.
