Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly has admitted to spending N80 million for the wives of lawmakers in the state house to take a trip to the United Arab Emirates, Dubai.
The speaker also gave a breakdown regarding how the money was spent while appearing before an investigative panel of inquiry on corruption to defend allegations of misappropriation leveled against him.
Obasa said the allegations leveled against him were untrue and the work of detractors intent on bringing the leadership of the house to disrepute.

He told the panel that 20 lawmakers’ wives were given N4 million each as estacode for the Dubai trip.
“We gave N4m to each of the participants for air tickets, hotels, feedings and local travel.
Air tickets to Dubai alone cost about N2m. Some of these allegations were raised for a crusade to get the Speaker out of office.
“The House of Assembly is above the common standard of excellence and we have to train people, and this comes at a cost,” the speaker said.
