The Lagos State Government has shut down 53 churches, mosques and hotels over noise pollution.
This was disclosed on Wednesday by the General Manager, Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Adebola Shabi, who said that the religious centres were accused of converting residential apartments to worship centres.
Also, he said the closures were carried out after several complaints from residents who felt the centres constituted nuisance to them.
According to him, the worship centres had been served abatement notice to vacate the premises before the actual closure was carried out.
While expressing concern for the way worship centres were springing up everywhere, he added that many of the makeshift structures converted to worship centres lacked government approval.
