2 Min Read

A dispatch rider narrowly escaped lynching by an irate mob after he was allegedly caught with a stolen baby in Lagos.

It was learnt that the dispatch rider was caught in the Sangotedo area of the state after someone heard a baby crying inside his dispatch box.

This was said to have led the whistle-blower to raise the alarm, attracting the attention of passersby.

A video of the incident circulating on social media shows a mob milling around the dispatch rider, beating and threatening to set him and his bike on fire before some security agents intervened.

In a reaction, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu said that the matter has yet to be reported to the police.

He said, “The attention of the Lagos State Police Command has been drawn to a video going viral on social media alleging that a dispatch rider was caught with a stolen child in dispatch box.

“The command wishes to inform the public that the incident said to have taken place in Sangotedo area, Lekki, was not reported at any police station to enable the police take appropriate actions.

“Notwithstanding that the incident was not reported, Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has directed that efforts should be intensified to locate the whereabouts of the alleged dispatch rider and the parents or guardians of the child to enable the police investigate the incident”
