Lagos police arrest eight wanted robbers who killed cop, stole rifle

The Lagos State Police Command has finally arrested all eight members of two syndicates that have been wanted for robberies and snatching of vehicles at gunpoint in Lagos State.

In a Saturday statement, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said the robbery suspects were arrested following weeks of discreet and intense investigation.

“While a few of the suspects were arrested in Lagos State, detectives trailed the rest to Iwo, Osun State and Ibadan, Oyo State where they were arrested,” the police spokesman said.

He identified the all-male suspects as Dayo Afolabi, 27, Segun Osoyemi, 32, Toheeb Adetunji, 29, Tomiwa Okunlola, 30, Bashiru Lukmon, 22, Usman Hammed, 25, Ashiru Usman, 24, and Toheeb Oyekunle, 32.

“The suspects were also responsible for the murder of a police officer and stealing of his rifle in Iju Ishaga area of Lagos State on December 9, 2023.

“The rifle has since been recovered during the first set of arrests.

“Other items recovered from the suspects include: one pump-action rifle, five locally-made pistols, thirty live cartridges and charms,” Hundeyin said.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, while commending the detectives for a job well done, assured Lagosians that the command would continue  to do everything operationally possible towards ensuring their optimum safety.
