The two time governorship aspirant took to his twitter handle to rant about the incident saying in a series of tweets as well as an attached video;
“Early this morning, our boards were vandalized and removed just as campaign commenced. Some of our deployment staff were also threatened with violence and warned to desist.
Fellow Lagosians, we must stand against this sort of tyranny. This is no ordinary election. This is a fight for freedom. A fight for Democracy. A fight for Lagos. We will not be silent and we will not be oppressed or suppressed into a corner. This time around, Democracy must win.”
Yemisi Busari, running mate to the PDP governorship aspirant also reacted to the incident on social media;
“It has come to our notice that some of our campaign boards that were stationed on third mainland bridge were destroyed overnight. I must say this is very disappointing to see. This is not Freedom. This is not Democracy. This is not the Lagos the people want to identify with.”
The campaign season for the 2019 governorship election in Lagos state officially started on December 1.
The two main challengers for the governorship seat remain, Jimi Agbaje of the opposition PDP and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The PDP has never won the governorship of Lagos state since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.
The 2019 election is expected to be one of the toughest elections in the history of the country given the highly charged political atmosphere in the run up to the elections.
