The Lagos State Fire Service said the body was able to save properties valued at N22.26 billion from being consumed while properties worth N3.71billion were lost to fire outbreak in the last three months in the state.
In a report released on Thursday, the service said it responded to 464 emergency calls which included fire outbreak, building collapse and other rescue operations.
The body equally said it had secured an undisclosed fund for aggressive public enlightenment programme to sensitize citizens on fire and disaster prevemtion.
“This is an ongoing exercise which is being conducted through motorised campaign to all nooks and crannies of the state.
“The fire service secured approval to increase the fire services’ workforce with recruitment of 100 able firemen to further strenghten the service,” the report stated.
The cases of fire outbreak were particularly rife around Lagos, with many lives being lost, including the lives of a six-member family in Lawanson area of Surulere Local Government Area in September.
