“My husband is inhuman, took my house” – Divorce seeking woman tells court

2 Min Read

A Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan has dissolved a 12-year-old marriage between one Kolawole Omotoso and his estranged wife, Badirat on grounds of infidelity and lack of love.

Delivering judgment, the President of the court, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo held that she dissolved the marriage for peace to reign between the duo.

Akintayo granted custody of the three children of the union to Badirat and ordered Omotoso to pay N20,000 as the children’s monthly feeding allowance.

The court also granted Badirat’s prayer restraining Omotoso from harassing, intimidating or interfering with Badirat’s life.

She directed Badirat to institute a civil suit to claim her property, a house from Omotoso.

She also ordered that a copy of the judgment be served on Omotoso who was absent in court.

Earlier, Badirat, a resident of Boluwaji Area in Ibadan told the court that all she derived from her 12 years of marriage to Omotoso was regret and lack of care.

“My lord, God rewarded my hard work as a foodstuffs trader with a house, but Omotoso has taken the documents from me.

“Not only has he converted the house to his, he also turns me into a punch bag anytime I complained about his habitual infidelity.

“Worse still, he has completely abandoned the three children to me as I now borrow money to pay their school fees.

“Recently, Omotoso got the police to arrest and detain me for two weeks without food.

“In fact, the policemen on night duty beat me all through the night while the baby I was carrying fed only on pap,’’ Badirat told the court.

The bailiff told the court that he served hearing notices on Omotosho, however.
