Lagos Island market fire: Sanwo-Olu visibly angry – Aide

2 Min Read

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Lagos State, Gboyega Akosile, has said that his principal, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was “visibly angry” over Tuesday’s fire incident at Dosumu market in Lagos Island area of the state.

Akosile said this in an X post on Friday while sharing photos of Sanwo-Olu’s visit to the scene of the incident.

On Wednesday, the spokesman of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Nosa Okunbor, disclosed that the fire incident, which affected 15 buildings out of which six collapsed, was caused by a generator set.

“Investigation revealed that the fire started from a shop where a generator set was being refueled while still on.

“The generator ignited in the process and the person fueling the generator threw the fuel to the building opposite, causing the fire to escalate,” Okunbor had said.

In his post, Akosile said Sanwo-Olu was “angry at the careless behavior of some resident, which ultimately led to major catastrophe”.

“I still can’t get over the sight of the Dosunmu fire disaster site. My principal @jidesanwoolu hardly gets angry and when he does, he doesn’t display his anger easily but the disturbing images of the fire incident, the ruins and losses to individuals and State weighed heavily on him. I saw a visibly angry man. He was angry at the careless behavior of some resident, which ultimately led to major catastrophe. The avoidable fire incident is a major disaster to say the least. In all, the Governor is providing the much needed leadership,” the governor’s aide wrote.
