Lagos state have appointed 16yr Old, Jemimah Marcus, as the 1-day Governor of the state.
This comes after the student of Angus Memoria Senior High School won the annual Lagos state Spelling Bee competition on Tuesday, at the event held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja,
“Apart from having the opportunity of being the Lagos One Day Governor, Miss Marcus was presented with a cash gift of N250, 000,” a statement read on the official website of the state.
The new 1-day Governor edged out six other contending student in a tightly contested competition.
The Special Guest of Honour, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, was represented by Mrs. Funso Raji.
Speaking at the competition, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, lauded the winners and participants alike for a job well done.
“As it is the practice, the one-day Governor will be awarded the Lagos state Government’s scholarship of interest in any university in the country,” she said.

She further stated that the winner will be afforded the privilege of attending multiple cultural exchange programmes.
The first runner up, Master Sotin Ajose of Topo Senior Grammar School, Badagry, won the sum of N150, 000, while the second runner up, Miss Rhema Edeh from Denton Junior Grammar School, Ebutta Metta, received a cash sum of N100, 000 for her efforts.
The Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, heaped praise on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for preserving the competition.
Seriki-Ayeni also praised parents and guardians for exposing their children to quality education.
She also hailed the students for exhibiting good morals which she explained will help them achieve “higher goals” in their lives.
The First Lady of the state, Mrs. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, pleaded with the students not to relent on their efforts, assuring them of greatness in their pursuit.
The competition was initiated and introduced to the Lagos State Ministry of Education by New Era Foundation (NEF) in 2001.
