Lagos Is Impenetrable By the Niger Delta Avengers – Lagos Police

2 Min Read

With a spate of attacks occurring in the Niger Delta Regional, there has been fear around the nation that other areas could be hit.

One of those areas is Lagos state as the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers had threatened to blow up Pipelines in the state.

The Lagos police have dismissed this threat stating that Lagos is well defended.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Nigeria Police Maritime Command, Mohammed Katsina and the Lagos State Police command boss, Fatai Owolabi at different places both waved away the idea of an attack on Lagos.

The former was quoted as saying, “We have gallant police officers. Through our synergy with the Navy, our inland waterways have become safer than before. The so-called Avengers have not been able to infiltrate Lagos due to the testimony of the fact that we have dominated our environment.”

There was fear hanging around the Ikorodu area of Lagos yesterday when news filtered in that the NDA had allegedly threatened to blow up installations in Ikorodu, Atlas Cove and other locations within the state and the presence of security representatives from the police, the DSS and even the army didn’t help matters.

But Owoseni has dismissed the reports as mere rumours. He spoke at a press briefing saying, “Just as you heard it as a rumour so I also heard it as a rumour.

It is just like the rumour we received that the Third Mainland Bridge would be bombed on May 29th. Here we are, the Third Mainland Bridge is still standing. However, plain clothed policemen, officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) are on ground and on top of the situation. People should be careful where they go.”
