Lagos govt speaks on test result of quarantined Indian

The Lagos State Government has said that an Indian presently being quarantined in the state has tested negative for coronavirus.

Commissioner for Health in the state, Prof. Akin Abayomi disclosed this in a tweet on Thursday night.

He wrote, “An Indian national that was admitted in our facility yesterday night with symptoms suggestive of #COVID19 has tested negative to #COVID19.

“He is doing perfectly well in our isolation unit. His case will be reviewed in the morning.”

The Indian was taken to the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba the same day a 30-year-old Nigerian lady tested positive for the virus in the state.

The lady, the third confirmed case of the virus in Nigeria, had returned from the United Kingdom on March 13 aboard a British Airways flight.

The Indian, a pipe fitter, was working at the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki when he showed symptoms similar to coronavirus.

According to a statement from Dangote, the unnamed Indian is an employee of one its contractors,  Onshore Construction Company, a mechanical, electrical and instrumentation contracting firm that specialises in fertilizer construction.

The statement said he reported at the site clinic complaining of high temperature and fever.

“His complaint triggered our Co-Vid 19 Preparation and Prevention Protocols which necessitated further screening and isolation immediately.

“Mr. Akhil Kunyil, of the Health and Safety Environment of the Onshore Company reported the development to the management following which local authorities were contacted.

“The patient was immediately conveyed to the Lagos Mainland hospital Center, where he is currently being isolated and undergoing tests,” the statement read in part.
