Lagos Drops Charges Against Naira Marley, Gbadamosi

The Lagos State Government has withdrawn the charges against Azeez Fashola popularly known as Naira Marley and politician, Babatunde Gbadamosi.

Naira Marley and Gbadamosi scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday. But the government, according to one of the defence counsel, Mr Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), withdrew the four counts filed against the three defendants.

He said the state withdrew the charges on the condition that the defendants would tender an apology to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Herald earlier reported that they were arrested by the Police following their violation of the lockdown order in Lagos.

The arrest came shortly after popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, who hosted a house party to mark her husband, JJC Skillz’ birthday in her house was arrested and arraigned before a court.

Funke and her husband were arraigned before a magistrate court.

Mrs Akindele-Bello and her husband pleaded guilty to the one-count charge

The charge with reference number MIK/A/43/2020 and dated April 6, 2020 was signed by Director, Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) Yaquib Oshoala, The Nation reports.

It stated: “That you (1) Funke Akindele (2) Abdul Rasheed Bello on the 4th day of April 2020 at 9,Gbadamosi Close, Amen Estate, Ibeju Lekki in the Lagos Magisterial District gathered at the aforementioned address with over twenty persons contrary to the social distancing directives of Mr Governor of Lagos State made pursuant to Regulation 8(1)(a) & (b) and 17(1)“) of the Lagos State Infectious Disease(Emergency PreventionMegu/atian 2020 and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 58 Public Health Law Cap P16 Vol.9 Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
