The Lagos Divisional Football Association (LDFA) on Friday disclosed that it would organise the maiden Oba Adeyinka Oyekan Cup football tournament as part of the association’s 2017 programmes.
Ifalade Oyekan, Chairman of LDFA, told a news conference and stakeholders’ forum at the Campus Mini Stadium in Lagos that the association’s priority was promoting grassroots football and engaging budding talents.
He said that that the body would redouble its effort to strengthen its league in 2017 and use its various programmes to discover talents at the grassroots.
“The essence of this news conference and stakeholders meeting is to evaluate LDFA’s performance in the outgoing year and its plans for 2017.
“We have not been able to execute some of our programmes for 2016 due to financial constraints but we have done our best.
“We will organise the Oba Olayinka Oyekan Cup in 2017,’’ he said
Also, Seyi Akinwunmi, Chairman of Lagos State Football Association (FA), commended the divisional association for its contributions to the development of football in the state.
Akinwunmi, said that the DFAs under the FA was created to aid the state FA in discovering budding talents in their localities.
“The LDFA have done well and all the other divisions in the state.
“Through the divisions, we have been able to get closer to the grassroots and discovered raw talents,’’ he said.
NAN reports that three trophies, namely League Trophy, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan Trophy and a Trophy for the Girls Competition were unveiled at the event.
