Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area (LGA) on Friday applauded Lafarge Cement Company for providing relief packages to some of its residents to cushion the effects of the ongoing lockdown across Lagos State.
The Vice-Chairman, Mr Daisi Oso, who represented the chairman, received the items on behalf of the Chairman, Mr Bolaji Ariyoh.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Babajide Dada, the Media Officer of the council.
The vice-chairman, speaking on behalf of the chairman, commended the company for supporting the government to provide succour to some of the needy citizens amid the current global health challenge.
“There is no doubt that no government at any level can feed her entire population, especially, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As part of measures to provide succour for the people through the Corporate Social Responsibility(CRS), Lafarge Company extended a kind gesture to the residents of Oshodi.
“This is through its relief packages given to the poorest of the poor, the vulnerable, the physical challenge and others in Oshodi,” he said.
The packages given to each of the beneficiaries contain food items such: Rice, Beans, Garri (Casava flake), Spaghetti, Milk, Tomato paste and groundnut oil.
He expressed the council’s gratitude to the organisation for living up to their responsibility in this period of a global challenge that required that all hands must be on deck for a solution.
He added that the pressure was much on government and there was a need for the intervention by corporate organisations to support the government as demonstrated by Lafarge.
” Lafarge has lived up to the expectation of the people as it has shown to be a responsible and responsive organisation that derives pleasure in providing succour to the people.
“This must be the aim of any organisation”, he said.
He, however, appealed to the people to keep adhering to the various preventive measures as directed by the government and the health caregivers to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Also, the Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Mr Maruf Akinderu, thanked Larfage Cement for their kind gesture.
