The Osun State Chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has announced its withdrawal from Saturday’s local government election, citing inadequate security arrangements by the State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
Adebayo Bello, the State Chairman of the party, made the announcement on Friday in Osogbo, stating that the party’s decision was driven by concerns for the safety of its members and supporters.
“We have seen some traces that the election might be disrupted tomorrow, and we are not ready to put the lives of our people in jeopardy,” said Oyebode Babalola, one of the party’s chairmanship candidates.
The Labour Party has called for the postponement of the election for one or two months to enable OSSIEC to adequately prepare for the poll and resolve outstanding legal issues.
