Alhaji Abdullahi Yaman, Kwara State Governorship aspirant, has called for the immortalisation of Late Retired Brig.-Gen. David Bamigboye by the state government as the first military governor and his contributions to the state.
Yaman made the call on Saturday in Abuja, while commiserating with the state government and the people of Omu-Aran.
The gubernatorial aspirant described the death of Bamigboye as shocking and a colossal loss to Nigeria and the people of Kwara.
He said that the loss came at a time when the deceased was most needed as the state braced up to witness a change in its quest for leadership.
Yaman, in a statement, described Bamigboye as a quintessential leader, unassuming and dogged, who contributed in no small measure to the growth and development of Nigeria and Kwara.
He noted that the deceased was a selfless leader, who while serving as the governor of the state treated the people as his immediate constituency without any form of discrimination.
Yaman sympathised with the people of Omu-Aran and the new Olomu of Omu-Aran, His Royal Highness Raheem Adeoti, and prayed for fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He said that Bamigboye would be missed by all for his outstanding contributions and patriotism to Nigerians and the people of Kwara.
Yaman urged the people of Kwara and Nigeria to emulate the sternly qualities of the Bamigboye, adding that the deceased was a true Nigerian who fought for the nation’s emancipation and freedom.
Bamigboye, who died in the early hours of Friday at the age of 78, was before his death, the Asiwaju of Igbomina and Ekiti land.
His death, however, came when the coronation of the new Olomu of Omu-Aran was slated for Saturday, Sept 22, 2018. (NAN)
