Following the jailbreak incidence at the Kuje Prisons last week which caused a massive stir as a former militant leader suspected to be responsible for the Independence day celebration attack in 2010, Charlse Okah was alleged to have escaped, the Comptroller-General of Prisons, Ahmed Jafa’aru, has made firm decisions.
The Prisons CP in light of the recent occurrence has ordered the removal and redeployment of the officer in-charge of Kuje Medium Prisons, Musa Tanko.
Recall that two inmates were reported to have escaped the facility.
Tanko, according to report will be facing an investigative panel at the Federal Capital Territory Command of the service.
Report revealed that Tanko’s office has since his redeployment been filled.
A source confirmed to news agency, Punch, “For now, only the officer in charge had been transferred out of the prisons, but we don’t know if other senior officers like the yard master and the officer on duty would also be redeployed out of Kuje prisons. For now, everyone is waiting with bated breath to see the next line of action by the authorities.”
However, the Prisons Service Public Relations Officer, Francis Enobore, stressed that Musa Tanko’s redeployment is not a capital punishment as a greater level of ppunishment will be meted out if indicted by the panel.
“The management of the prisons service is taking the matter seriously and any indicted officer will be severely punished, so transfer cannot be the punishment for escape of inmates,” he stated.
