A Senator from Kogi state representing Kogi East, Atai Aidoko, has been sacked by a Federal High Court in Abuja
The presiding judge of the High Court Judge, Gabriel Kolawole, declared that Aidoko was wrongly presented as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the December 2014 Primaries conducted by the PDP.
Mr Aidoko was presented as the PDP’s flag bearer and his legitimacy was challenged by Isaac Alfa who also began a legal battle for the nullification of Aidoko’s election.
According to the Court of Appeal, the parties were then ordered to go back to the court of initial trial and allow the court to determine who the rightful owner of the suit is.
The result of this was that the seat was left vacant.
Aidoko, however, failed to vacate the office and has appeared repeatedly at Senate plenaries since then.
On Wednesday, the court ordered the PDP and Mr Aidoko to pay Mr Alfa N750,000 each.
Justice Kolawole of the Federal High Court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Senator Aidoko
