The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports making the rounds that it has selected a candidate to replace Prince Abubakar Audu, who died just before the November 21 gubernatorial election in Kogi State was declared “inconclusive” by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The electoral body had directed the party to replace its dead candidate for the supplementary election to be held on December 5 in the 91 polling units in the state where elections were cancelled.
Many went to town saying the party had already selected Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who came second at the primary election that produced Audu as the party’s flagbearer, as the party’s choice to replace the dead candidate.
Some mentioned Audu’s eldest son, Mohammed, and others said his running mate, James Faleke had gotten the party’s nod.
However, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Comrade Timi Frank, said the party was yet to pick a candidate to replace the Ogbonicha, Ofu-born dead politician.
In an interview With Vanguard, he said: “We are still consulting on the issue. We would take a final stand on the issue of Audu’s replacement on Monday and we are definitely going to issue a statement on the issue.”
