Prominent lawyer and former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Chief Olisa Agbakoba has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organise fresh elections in Kogi State after the electoral body declared Saturday’s gubernatorial election “inconclusive”.
Chief Agbakoba was speaking to the media on the shocking and unexpected demise of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the election, Prince Abubakar Audu, who reportedly died of heart attack after INEC’s announcement.
The respected legal icon said: ”The fact that the candidate is dead, invalidates the ticket.”
Explaining the rationale behind his argument, he said that “you need to have a person and a party to complete the ticket”.
Similarly, Agbakoba said it would have been a straight-forward argument had the candidate been declared winner before his demise, saying that: “The deputy would have been elevated to the position of the governor.”
