Kogi Guber Poll: INEC Gives APC Go Ahead To Pick Audu’s Replacement Before Dec 5

1 Min Read

The controversy generated by the demise of the All Progressives Congress candidate in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, may finally be laid to rest as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given the APC the go ahead to fill the void created by Audu with another candidate.

This is to enable the commission continue with supplementary election in the 91 polling units where election was cancelled in the state, leading to the results being declared inconclusive, a statement from INEC, signed by its secretary, Augusta Ogakwu, confirmed on Tuesday.

The supplementary election is scheduled for December 5.

INEC is leaving the choice of whom to make the candidate to replace Audu in the APC’s hands.

Controversy had broken out as to the right course of action to take by the APC after its candidate died just before the election result was declared inconclusive.

While some legal minds had advocated that Audu’s running mate, Abiodun Faleke, should take over the slot because our laws were silent on the next course of action in the situation, other lawyers argued that APC ought to conduct another supplementary primary election to produce another candidate.
