Scores of supporters of deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the November 21 governorship election in Kogi state, James Faleke, on Thursday besieged the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
The protesters who were wielding placards with different inscriptions written on them wondered why the electoral body failed to declared Faleke governor-elect at the demise of the governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu.
They also charged INEC to shelve the proposed December 5 supplementary election scheduled to hold in 91 polling units in which elections were cancelled in the state, calling the supplementary poll an “affront on democracy”.
A protester who spoke with Vanguard accused INEC of playing out an undisclosed agenda, wondering why the body failed to declare the APC candidate winner despite the fact that he led his closest rival, incumbent Governor Idris Wada, with 41,000 votes, which should still be enough to ensure victory for the party even if the opposition managed to capture all 25,000 contended votes in the 91 polling units.
