Kogi Govt. expresses satisfaction with contractors handling water projects

Kogi State Governor

The Kogi Government has expressed satisfaction with the level of work carried out by most contractors handling water project in various parts of the state.

The State’s Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr Salami Ozigi expressed the satisfaction at an interactive session with the contractors on Wednesday in Lokoja.

Ozigi said reports presented by 80 per cent of the contractors indicated that most of the projects had reached 65 to 75 per cent completion.

“After listening attentively to the reports presented by majority of the contractors, we are satisfied to some extent with the level of work done so far.

“Most of them have gone beyond 65 to 75 per cent completion in spite of the shortcomings of funds on the part of the state government.

“I am sure the government would be encouraged to further motivate contractors by giving them the more funds to complete those projects,’’ Ozigi said.

The commissioner, who called on the contractors to do quality job, also advised those who had collected funds but yet to start work to immediately commence work, saying defaulters would be prosecuted.

He noted that Vivid Vision Global Resource Ltd. had been mobilised to the tune of over N20 million to supply water metering devices but had not made any supply.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the state government in 2015 awarded a contract to the company to supply water meter worth over N90 million.

“We have sent special invitations to the erring contractors for fair hearing so as to know the reasons and challenges they are facing.

“If their reasons are not convincing enough, then necessary actions shall be taken to ensure that there is no abandoned project,’’ he said.

The acting Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Sule Oladunni also advised contractors who had abandoned sites to go back. (NAN)
