Kogi state governor-elect, Alhaji Yayaha Bello has promised to industrialise the state as a way of bringing development to the people when he is eventually sworn-in as governor.
Bello, who replaced the All Progressives Congress’ gubernatorial candidate in the November 21 election, late Prince Abubakar Audu, won Saturday’s supplementary election that was conducted in 91 polling units where elections were previously cancelled.
While addressing the media in the Kogi state capital, Lokoja, Bello said he would embark on campaigns aimed at restructuring critical infrastructure and institutions such as the civil service, to make them more efficient.
According to him, industrialization is the best way to create employment for the teeming unemployed youths in the state.
He said he would try to entice foreign investors to the state, with the aim of making Kogi a business haven.
Also, he promised to concentrate on areas such as agriculture, solid minerals and tourism to boost the state’s revenues, while vowing to liaise with the Federal Government to restructure moribund industries such as the Ajaokuta Steel Company and the Itakpe Iron Ore Company. This he said will ensure that the companies realise their full potential.
Bello equally identified education, healthcare and infrastructural development as critical sectors that will receive attention under his administration.
