The Director of Strategic Communications of Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO), Festus Keyamo (SAN), has lambasted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for calling for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
The PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, had called for Yakubu’s resignation last week over his failure to conduct credible, free and fail elections since assuming office.
He said, “We want to do this advance warning that we are lovers of democracy and peace.
“We want the peace of our nation ; so , let them note all they have done , even in the case of Kwara and Bauchi, where we warned clearly that they announced different results.
“That will no longer be acceptable. We therefore call on the INEC leadership headed by Prof. Yakubu to quietly resign because he does not have strong will and courage to conduct free and fair election. He should resign.”
Secondus, who spoke at the 83rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party, equally called for the resignation of Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris over allegations that the police were under him was being used to undermine the democratic process.
But Keyamo, who took to his verified Twitter handle on Monday, described the call for the INEC chairman’s resignation as uncalled for.
He said, “Before 2015 elections, PDP (as ruling party) lost faith in INEC Chairman they appointed themselves. Now, before the 2019 elections, the same PDP says they have lost faith in a new INEC Chairman. I guess what’ll satisfy them is when the PDP National Chairman becomes the INEC Chairman.”
