There wasn’t much ado when Stephen Keshi was sacked as coach of Super Eagles, he has since vowed to move on.
But, according to ThisDay, the football manager claims he was not sacked.
“I am not happy with the way media people are reporting this to the public, because I don’t understand how you would fire someone that has no contract,” Keshi’s defends the news making rounds of his dismissal as coach.
He explained, “my contract expired after the World Cup in Brazil, and I never made any effort for my contract to be renewed because of so many issues on the ground.”
Keshi indeed fell out of contract with the NFF during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, however, he continued as coach of the Eagles and failed to come to agreement with the board on a new contract deal after several negotiations.
Reports had claimed Keshi was linked to three other African countries who were offered him coaching jobs in their national team.
Contrastingly, he told Supersports
“I have never told anybody that three African countries are looking for
me, and as far as I’m concerned, no nation has called me for any talk.”
“I have accepted my fate, and I would move on with my life, but I want to make it clear that I was never sacked because I had no contract,” he added.
The Super Eagles still have two remaining matches in the AFCON qualifier which will determine the possibility of them advancing to the tournament.
Keshi wished the boys “good luck in their next two games” and maintains that Nigeria will qualify for the Nations Cup.
