Kenya Citizens enraged as Police kill Toddler in Alcohol raid

The citizens of Kenya are in a sour mood after Police shot a toddler during an alcohol raid in Kahawa West, Nairobi. 

The toddler identified as Duncan Githinji was supposed to turn three next month was killed in an altercation between chanja’a sellers and the police.

Chanja’a is a traditional home-brewed spirit, popular in Kenya. 

According to Daily Nation, The police got angry and reportedly overturned drums of brew after demanding for a routine bribe of Sh50 from two female Changa’a sellers who were in no mood to pay. A violent fight broke out between both parties leading to the accidental shooting of Duncan who was playing nearby.

Poor Duncan Githinji died on his way to the hospital.

It remains unclear why a Policeman would shoot his AK-47 in an alcohol raid.

The family of Duncan Githinji, witnesses and all of Kenya citizens are calling for Justice on the perpetrators of this evil act. They are confused as to why they should be killed in the hands of the police who should be protecting them from killers. They demand that this police face the full wrath of the law.

Amnesty International has reacted by condemning the shooting and calling for speedy investigation.

Mr. Irungu Houghton, the Executive Director said “It condoles with the family of the deceased during this sad time. The family should be advised that the National Police Service Act and the Public Order Act are clear on the use of force and firearms by our security officers”
