Kemi Badenoch, a Nigeria-born UK parliamentarian eyeing the seat of Prime Minister, says Nigerian politicians use “public money as their private piggy banks”.
The 42-year-old recently made the final list of 8 within the Conservative Party jostling to succeed Boris Johnson by September 5.
According to a report, she is one of the top 5 contenders for the seat, the others being Rishi Sunak, Penny Mordaunt, Liz Truss, and Tom Tungedhat.
Badenoch, who is the MP representing Saffron Walden since 2017, said she chose to become a Conservative MP to “serve”.
“And I chose this country because here I can be free and I can be everything that I wanted to be,” she said of her ambition to go to 10 Downing Street.
Badenoch added, “I grew up in Nigeria, and I saw first hand what happens when politicians are in it for themselves, when they use public money as their private piggy bank, when they promise the earth and pollute not just the air, but the whole political atmosphere with their failure to serve others. I saw what socialism means for millions: poverty and broken dreams.”
