Gov Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has said that the state needs additional 8,000 primary school teachers to help change the face of quality education at that level.
While speaking at an interactive session with headmasters and stakeholders in education, Masari said the state currently has about 19,833 primary school teachers out of which 4,996 are females.
He estimated that the state also needs additional 3,000 classrooms to accommodate a large number of pupils in both urban and rural areas in the state because primary education is the bedrock of education.
The governor also attributed the state’s poor performance in the Senior School Certificate Examination to the state of primary education in the state.

He announced that his administration has engaged the services of the Department of Education of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, for the training of teachers.
Chairman of Katsina State special committee on education, Badamasi Charanchi added that about 13,900 furniture is needed to accommodate pupils seating on the bare floor in schools across the state.
The Maiadu’a Local Education Authority (LEA) in Katsina State, says it is targeting to enrol up to 9,000 children into primary school for the 2019/2020 academic session.
The Education Secretary of the area, Alhaji Usman Maiadu’a, made the disclosure in an interview with the Nigeria News Agency in Maiadu’a on Wednesday.
He said they have been interfacing parent-teachers associations, school-based management committees, traditional and religious leaders in the area towards achieving the target.
