Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Mrs Hauwa Yusuf, the mother-in-law of Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari.

According to Daily Trust, the 80-year-old woman is the mother of Binta Masari, one of the governor’s three wives.

She was reportedly kidnapped at her residence at Dandume crescent in Katsina layout of the metropolis around 3am on Friday.

Her abductors were said to have stormed the residence and whisked her away after beating up some residents of the house.

The gunmen, who wore masks, were said to have carted away some telephones but have yet to contact the family.

The state police command has yet to comment on the incident.

Masari, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is seeking a second term in Saturday’s gubernatorial election in the state.

Katsina has witnessed a recent spike in crime rate.

Recall that the governor said on January 2 that the state was under siege from robbers and kidnappers.

He said, “Our state is currently under serious siege by armed robbers, kidnappers and armed bandits who arrest rural people at will and demand ransom, which if not paid, results in the killing their victims.

“The people of Katsina in the 34 local governments now sleep with one eye closed and the other opened.

“Our state is in a dangerous situation. Travellers are afraid of being stopped on the highway and arrested by kidnappers who demand ransom.”
