Residents and vigilante members in a Katsina community summoned courage to resist an attack by armed bandits, killing one in the process while others fled.
The bandits stormed Garwa village in Batsari local government and killed a youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the community, Mallam Sadi on Monday night.

According to accounts by residents, youths and members of the vigilante in the community summoned courage and fought off the assailants before they could kill any other person.
In the exchange of gunfire, one of the bandits was said to have been killed while others fled into the forest.
The villagers said further that asides from the APC youth leader that was killed, the assailants were not able to steal anything or kill anyone else.
The spokesperson for the Katsina state police command, SP Gambo Isah also confirmed the development to newsmen.
