Veteran Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has taken to social media to express her concerns about the safety of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Nigeria and has called for the abolition of the program. On her Twitter page, the actress shared her thoughts, stating that the NYSC program should be scrapped due to the safety risks that corps members encounter. She emphasized that young people’s lives are being put in danger, and it’s time to reconsider the program’s continuation.
Kate Henshaw recounted her own time as a corper, particularly when she served in the Northern part of Nigeria. She highlighted that during her service, she could travel from Bauchi to the airport safely and fly to Lagos using just her NYSC ID card. However, she noted that the present situation is different, and corps members face challenges and risks while traveling.
The actress expressed her concerns about the security of young people and suggested that the government prioritize security measures to ensure the safety of everyone. She stated that instead of holding on to outdated ideas, it’s important to address the safety concerns head-on and make necessary changes to the program.
