Liverpool have been dealt an embarrassing blow as Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema refused the chance to move to Anfield, reports the Daily Star. Although Real Madrid were reportedly listening to offers for the French ace, the 26-year old turned down the Reds as he felt that it would be a major step down in his career.
The Reds are desperate to replace their Barcelona departed star Luis Suarez with a quality centre-forward, but their options are diminishing fast. There are not too many world class attackers remaining on the market this summer, and Benzema’s rejection could turn out to be a major blow for the Reds.
Kop boss Brendan Rodgers is searching extensively for a new striker to cope with the loss of Suarez, and it would be interesting to see who he lands as an effective enough replacement. Benzema meanwhile, looks set for a new deal at the Bernabeu after returning to goalscoring form late last season, and is likely to snub interest from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal.
