Nigerian legend Nwankwo Kanu was relieved of about $11,000 at the airport in Russia recently and the money has now been returned.
The money had been stolen over the weekend but the Russian Police were quick to recover the money and return it to the former Arsenal star.
According to Sporting Life, a source of theirs who is also close to the former Inter Milan forward said he was very grateful to have the money returned .
“Yes Papilo is grateful. The Russia police and security agencies were very helpful. They recovered it in hours and returned the money to him,” the source said.
The 41-year-old was in town to take part in a match featuring FIFA legends which took place in Russia on Sunday.
The gangly striker had gotten to his hotel room only to discover that his money had been stolen from his suitcase and that he was $11,000 lighter. He was quick to report to the authorities who swung into action to recover the money.
The incident has brought security matters in Russia to the fore with the World Cup just 10 days away.
Nigeria face Croatia in their opening game at the World Cup but are currently in Austria for a training camp and will face the Czech Republic in their final warm-up game before the Global tournament.
