Olympic gold medallist, Nwankwo Kanu has congratulated Nigeria’s U-23 team for beating Senegal in the semi-final of the ongoing CAF U-23 Cup of Nations and picking up a ticket to the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The hosts were pipped to a 1-0 loss by the Samson Siasia-tutored team, despite having an excellent run in the group stage.
Recall that Kanu was the captain of the Nigeria U-23 team that won gold in the men football event of the Atlanta 1996 Olympic games.
In a series of tweets about the victory, Kanu saluted the team’s resilience in the face of opposition and congratulated the coaching crew led by Siasia.
The final of the tournament will be played in the Senegalese capital, Dakar on Saturday between Nigeria and the winner of the Algeria versus South Africa clash.
