Kano State Govt. Earmarks N45bn for Education Sector in 2021

The Kano State Government has earmarked N45.6 billion in the 2021 tagged ‘Budget for Economic Recovery and Sustainable Development’ for the education sector.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning , Alhaji Nura Dankadai, said this while addressing newsmen on the 2021 budget breakdown of N 177,936,730 on Thursday in Kano.

“The present administration has given the education sector special priority considering its significance toward the upliftment of any society wishing to progress.

“It is in view of the foregoing that the government planned to spend a total sum of N45.6 billion on this critical sector representing 25.68 per cent of the 2021 budget,”  he said.

Dankadai said that the state government would continue to sustain the giant strides made in expanding access to basic quality education in the state.

The commissioner said that N16.4 billion representing 17.46 per cent was earmarked for the Ministry of Health to accommodate programmes and projects that would deliver the state government’s commitment in the 2021 fiscal year.

He added that N800 million was earmarked for the upgrade of the General Hospitals at Gaya, Bichi, Karaye and Rano Emirates with N200 million each.

According to him, the government has set aside N1 billion for the establishment, equipping and furnishing of the cancer centre at the Muhammadu Buhari General Hospital in the metropolis.

Dankadai also said that N14.7 billion was budgeted for the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure for the provision of adequate infrastructure and  the execution of various projects in the state.

He said, “N4.4 billion was set aside for constituency projects, N200 million was earmarked for independent power plant projects at Tiga Dam and Challawa Goge Dam and N200 million for the construction of flyover from Kofar-Mata – Kantin Kwari – singer Murtala Muhammad way,” he added.

According to him,  N9 billion is allocated for water supply and rural development and N 2.5 billion is also earmarked for the Ministry of Information.

The commissioner explained that N9.1 billion was set aside for security,  law and justice in an effort to sustain effective justice system, promotion of human rights,  fight against corruption and improving businesses in the state.
