The Kano State Govement has reiterated its commitment towards making sure the people buy and consume genuine drugs whenever the need arises to do so.
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stated this while on Wednesday while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council Meeting at the Government House.
The governor mentioned that, in line with this commitment, the state government had in the past two days destroyed fake drugs valued at around N30 million which were seized by the gallant operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Sabon Gari market, Kano.
He assured the residents of the state government to ensure that anyone caught in the act of selling fake and expired drugs is arrested and diligently prosecuted.
Ganduje added that: “We can`t just fold our arms and allow this to continue; our people are dying of fake and expired drugs.”
The governor also said the state government was keying into the Federal Government’s policy of putting an end to rice and wheat importation by supporting local farmers in the state who were into production of these food products.
He said he embarked on an assessment mission to Nata’Ala Village in Garun Mallam Local Government Area to speak firsthand with rice farmers about their challenges.
Furthermore, he made a stop at Alkamawa Village in Bunkure Local Government where he met thousands of wheat farmers.
Ganduje equally directed all commissioners to submit the reports of their ministries within seven days so as to enable the state government monitor the level of implementation of their programmes.
He called on the people of Kano to liaise with the state government in order to move the state forward.
