The Kano State Fire Service has advised filling station owners in the state to ensure strict compliance with safety regulations to prevent possible fire outbreak.
The Director of the Service, Mr Mustapha Rulwan, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Saturday.
Rulwan said the advice was necessary following a fire incident which gutted a filling station on Zoo Road in the state capital on Friday.
“A tanker caught fire while offloading fuel at the filling station.
“The incident would have been avoided or prevented if the station had dry powder extinguisher and a sand bucket.
“We received the call at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday that a tanker offloading petrol into a tank has caught fire.
“Although no life was lost and no one injured, but if the filling station had 50kg dry powder extinguisher and a sand bucket, the fire would have been put out immediately,” he said.
Rilwan added that the service put out the fire with the assistance of the central fire station.
He, therefore, urged filing stations to ensure that they had a fire extinguisher before a product was offloaded.
He also called on the residents to report fire outbreak on time for quick response. (NAN)
