Kano state assembly suspends Emir Sanusi’s probe

2 Min Read

The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the probe of the emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, following  a request from the state governor.

The decision was taken Monday afternoon after the Speaker, Alhassan Rurum, read a letter from the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, seeking them to suspend further probe of the emir.

Our Reporter gathered that in the letter, Mr Ganduje listed the names of the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo, party leaders, former heads of state Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, Aliko Dangote, Aminu Dantata, among others as those who lobbied on behalf of the emir.

While pleading with lawmakers to suspend the investigation, the governor recognized their independence as an arm of government.

Mr Ganduje explained in the letter that following their peace meeting with the emir in Kaduna, the emir admitted all his mistakes and apologize to him.

A member of the House who pleaded anonymity quoted the governor as reasoning that he asked them to shelve the probe in respect to the notable personalities who waded into the matter not because the emir was not guilty to the charges.

The house therefore unanimously approved the governor’s request, except the plan to repeal the law establishing the emirate.

Sources in the House said a plan is afoot by the lawmakers to create additional four emirates in the state.
